About Raven Foster

I'm Raven Foster, a British fine artist and surface pattern designer creating richly coloured, nature-connected artwork filled with story, emotion and a touch of quiet magic.

My work moves between wildlife, the natural world and imagined realms, but at its heart is something simple: I want to create art that makes you feel something.

Perhaps it brings a sense of peace into a room. Perhaps it reminds you of somewhere, someone or something you love. Perhaps it simply makes you stop for a moment and think, wow.

Because I believe the right piece of art does more than decorate a wall. It can change the atmosphere of a space and how we feel within it.

How Raven Foster Art Began

Art has always been part of who I am, but for many years it remained something I enjoyed alongside the rest of my life.

Then my life changed dramatically.

Ill health and disability took away much of my independence and freedom I had known, and for a long time I was waiting for my old life to return,

Eventually, I realised I needed to stop waiting and begin discovering what was still possible for me.

Art became part of that journey.

What began with a very small wish for a table and chair in the garage, somewhere I could sit, create and feel the sun on my face and the breeze through my hair, gradually became an art studio.

Then something unexpected happened.

People began stopping by the open garage doors to see what I was creating. they talked about the paintings, asked questions and repeatedly told me I should be selling my work.

I kept telling them it was only a hobby.

They weren't having any of it.

In 2025, I took a much bigger leap and opened my studio as part of Birmingham Open Studios.

People came.

They stood amongst my paintings, shared their reactions and stories, and some chose artwork to take home with them. One visitor even travelled many miles to spend a weekend close to my studio so they could come by for both days on my opening weekend.

That experience changed something in me.

I realised that art was no longer simply giving something back to me.

My art could give something to other people too.

And Raven Foster Art became a business.

Why I Create

Today, I create original acrylic and watercolour paintings (and occasional chalk pastel artworks) alongside developing collections for products, interiors and licensing.

My work honours wildlife, nature, women of quiet strength and the soulful, sometimes overlooked presence of the world around us.

Colour, light, symbolism and storytelling run throughout my work, from expressive original paintings to designs intended to bring that same sense of wonder into everyday surroundings.

I create slowly and intentionally, using professional, lightfast materials chosen for their richness, vibrancy and longevity.

I want the work I make to last.

There is something rather wonderful about knowing that a painting can leave my studio, become part of somebody else's home and continue its story there.

Ultimately, I hope my artwork outlives me.

I hope pieces are loved, lived with and perhaps even passed from one generation to another, continuing to create those little moments of beauty, peace, happiness and wonder long after the final brushstroke has dried.

Creating Beyond Limits

Building Raven Foster Art has taught me something I wish I had understood much earlier:

When the world tells you all the things you can't do, it's up to you to find out what you can do.

I haven't built my creative life by pretending limitations don't exist. I've built it by finding different ways to work with the life I actually have.

Sometimes I paint in my studio with the doors open and the sunlight (or sometimes rain) pouring in. Sometimes I create from the sofa. The circumstances may change, but the desire to make something meaningful remains.

Perhaps I was planted in darkness.

Now I'm beginning to bloom.

And through Raven Foster Art, I hope to keep creating work that brings a little more beauty and wonder into the world.

Whether you become a collector, discover my work through a product or collaboration, visit my studio, follow the journey online, or simply stop in front of one of my paintings and smile, you're welcome here.

My Mission

My mission is to create distinctive, emotionally resonant artwork that brings nature, story, colour and wonder into the spaces and lives it enters.

Through original fine art and developing design collections, I explore wildlife, the natural world and imagined realms, creating work that celebrates presence, connection and the quietly extraordinary.

I want Raven Foster Art to create more than beautiful objects.

I want it to create moments: the pause in front of a painting, the connection with a creature or story, the unexpected wow, and the pleasure of living with something that continues to mean something long after it was first discovered.

Art With Legacy

Nature gives me an endless source of inspiration, so caring for it is an important part of how I want Raven Foster Art to grow.

For every original artwork sold, I plant a tree and adopt a bee, allowing each original to leave a small living legacy beyond the artwork itself.

Within my studio, I continue to make thoughtful choices around materials, packaging and waste. I use professional artist materials chosen for quality and longevity, FSC - certified wood where appropriate, cotton painting surfaces and eco-conscious packaging wherever practical.

Paint residues and water are managed responsibly, and I reuse suitable materials within the studio wherever I can rather than automatically sending them to waste.

I don't claim perfection. Sustainability is an ongoing process, and I will continue looking for better ways to create beautiful, lasting artwork while reducing the impact of my practice on the natural world that inspires so much of it.
